Saint Patrick’s Day: An International Celebration
Every year in March many people gather to celebrate the arrival of Christianity to Ireland. Catholics, Lutherans, Anglicans and other Christian religions commemorate this in various ways.
Religious services are common, but they are not the only characteristic. People wear green clothes, especially T-shirts and hats. However, the most popular symbol of Saint Patrick’s Day is the shamrock.
In the United States, this holiday is very popular amongst people of Irish descent. In many American cities, you can see a lot of locals wearing green and drinking beer in Irish-styled pubs.
On January 23, Chinese people will gather for their biggest annual celebration.
The Chinese calendar is the oldest time-record that you can find today. Some people say it is almost 30.000 years old. This is a mixture of lunar and solar calendar, and it is used in most of Southeast Asia today. Western cultures (America and Europe for example) use a solar calendar, best known as the “Gregorian” calendar.
In the Chinese calendar, years receive the name of 12 animals; for example this year will be the Year of the Dragon, the year that is ending was the Year of the Rabbit, and the one before was the Year of the Tiger.
The Chinese New Year does not fall on the same date every year. This year it will be on January 23, but last year it was on February 3. This is because the calendar is cyclical and the year can begin anytime from the end of January to the middle of February.

Web Giants Join Protests Against S.O.P.A. and P.I.P.A.
The Senate of the United States of America is on the process of passing laws to prevent online piracy. However, some people say that these laws will do more than just fight piracy. They say the laws will become a form of censorship. The names of the laws are S.O.P.A. (Stop Online Piracy Act) and P.I.P.A. (Protect Intellectual Property Act), and mainly video and music studios in the US support them. They say that they are loosing huge amounts of money due to online piracy.
Although nobody seems to support the violation of copyright, online companies and some scholars suggest that the law might easily promote violation to rights such as the freedom of speech. That is why they openly oppose these laws.
Egyptian public media & private media have different versions.
State news agencies and private news agencies seem to disagree on who is responsible for the violent events of the last three days in Egypt.
The clashes began on Friday when the police officers tried to disperse a small protest against the transitional government. After this event, thousands of protesters reacted strongly.
On the one hand, according to the official agencies, some people from inside the riots killed the protesters. On the other hand, media that are not affiliated with the government suggest that the army and the police attacked and killed civilians.
All this has happened while this African country undergoes elections to decide who is going to replace former president Mubarak.
Many people talk about being healthy, but few can tell you what a healthy plate looks like.
Everybody talks about healthy food, but some people have misconceptions about what is healthy and what is unhealthy.
For example, people say that ice cream is a very unhealthy food. The truth is that ice cream is unhealthy only if you eat too much of it, or in very especial cases.
Fruits and vegetables are very healthy, but your body also needs other foods. A healthy meal includes fruits, vegetables, grains (wheat, rice, oatmeal), protein (meat, pork, chicken, and beans), and dairy products (milk, cheese, and yogurt).
All of them are healthy; just remember not to eat too much.

7 Billion People Alive on Planet Earth
The world population recently reached 7 billion, and the number keeps growing.
We are now more than seven billion people sharing this planet. The earth now has twice more inhabitants than what it used to have only fifty years ago. By December 1971, forty years ago, we were less than 4 billion, and around three hundred thousand babies were born everyday.
Now that we have reached this astronomic number, the toll of births is not much higher (no more than 400,000 per day). However, the real question is not about how many people are born everyday, or how many die. The real question has to do with the challenges and opportunities that this number represents.
In countries like China, almost two thousand people are born every minute, and almost one thousand die in the same period of time.
